Words without action are empty. So many people talk about improving the community but do move past their front door. My hope is that the words I write translate into action in the community. Tonight bears one such attempt. HBO, the St. Louis Sports Commission, Vetta Sports, and Saint Louis Athletica are hosting the premiere of the HBO Documentary Film Kick Like a Girl. The film is the story of an undefeated third grade girls’ soccer team that eventually competes in the boys’ division. Kick Like a Girl explores the real-life gender issues of sport and life and relates them to sportsmanship and teamwork. About 200 boys and girls along with their parents will watch the film. After a brief discussion, they will be able to participate in an interactive soccer clinic run by the Saint Louis Athletica Women’s Professional Soccer Team.
HBO, Vetta Sports, and Saint Louis Athletica have been incredible partners. They each hold a great passion for the community and it will be on display tonight at the Vetta Sports Soccerdome in Suburban St. Louis. I am sure the film and subsequent discussion will inspire a whole host of topics for this blog. Kick Like a Girl makes its worldwide premiere on HBO tomorrow, May 28th at 6 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Central. Please check listings for other show times on HBO and HBO Family. Until next time…
Be a Good Sport!
