Champions of Character

May 20, 2009

The NAIA Men’s & Womens Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held this week at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE). NAIA sudent athletes will begin competition tomorrow morning, but today they gave back. Champions of Character is program run by the NAIA to teach and promote its five core values – respect, responsibility, servant leadership, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.

Student athletes talked to elementary and middle school students about those core values. Kids also participated in a softball throw, 50-yard dash, and standing broad jump contest. Doane College (Crete, NE) and Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, MI) were the presenting schools. While you may have never of these schools, they are producing great young adults both on and off the field of play. The students of Woodward Elementary and Blewett Middle had a great time.
