  • Accept accountability for my behavior and its outcomes.
  • Be fair in my dealings with others on and off the playing field.
  • Play by the spirit, not just the letter, of the rules of the game and the rules of life.
  • Realize that there are four roles in sports – player, coach, official or fan – and I will choose one and respect the others.
  • Keep the game – winning and losing – in perspective.

  • Ensure that all athletes receive equal instruction, support, and opportunities.
  • Take an active role in the prevention of drug and alcohol use.
  • Avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in contact with players.
  • Master the contest rules and teach them to my team. We will not seek an advantage by violation of the spirit or letter of the rules.
  • Promote an atmosphere of respect among my team and its families.
  • Give my athletes the best chance to win, in sport and in life.
  • Uphold the honor and dignity of coaching. In all personal contact with athletes, officials, athletic directors, administrators, athletic associations, the media, and the public, I will set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.
  • Realize that there are four roles in sports – player, coach, official or fan – and I will choose one and respect the others.
  • Keep the game – winning and losing – in perspective.

Sportsmanship Pledge (Parents)

As a parent who promotes and practices good sportsmanship, I pledge to:

  • Display positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other event.
  • Place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • Avoid “coaching” from the stands – I am not the coach, so I will not shout out instructions – and I will avoid criticizing officials, coaches and opposing players during the game and after.
  • Maintain realistic expectations, stay positive, and avoid criticizing my child’s play.
  • Understand that children play sports for fun, fitness, friends, participation and skill development, and I will make sure my child’s reasons for playing sports come before mine.
  • Not offer opinions on the officiating or on a particular call.
  • Be a positive and encouraging fan and applaud good plays for both teams.
  • Insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs and alcohol, and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
  • Realize that there are four roles in sports – player, coach, official or fan – and I will choose one and respect the others.
  • Keep the game – winning and losing – in perspective.
  • Do my very best to make sports fun for my child.
